Who Is The World's Fastest Drummer? We'll Know Soon

Who has what it takes to be NAMM's International Fastest Drummer? Maybe you do. The 2003 NAMM Show, held January 16-19 in Anaheim, has announced its quest to find the fastest drummer in the world. This highly charged interactive event will be a feature at this year's show, which is the largest convention of music stores and musical equipment manufacturers in the U.S.The contest has two categories: fastest hands and fastest feet. It will be held each day of the winter NAMM Show in NAMM'S Exhibit Hall 'E' at the Anaheim Convention Center, starting at 11:00am Thursday, January 16th. Additional heats will continue through Friday and Saturday until 4:00 P.M. The top ten fastest hands and top ten fastest feet contestants will compete in a Finals Battle held on NAMM'S main outside stage at 1:00pm Sunday, January 19th.Included in this year's event will be technical demonstrations, insight sessions, and appearances by WFD Champions Mike Mangini, self-described World's Fastest DrummerArt Verdi, Johnny Rabb, Tim Waterson and Jotan Afanador."To see these guys go at it, full throttle, smooth as silk with their hands and feet moving over 18 times per second for an entire minute is simply an amazing work of technical proficiency," says Boo McAfee, co-founder of Extreme Sport Drumming. The NAMM International Fastest Drummer Contest is sponsored by THE MUSIC EDGE.COM, NAMM's new teen promotional initiative and is open to everyone attending this year's Winter NAMM Show. All contestants for both Hands and Feet Competition will be scored on playing single strokes (no bounces, presses or buzz) for one minute and recorded by the Drumometer. The grand prizes for this year's contest include: Two Mapex drum sets, a year's supply of ProMark drumsticks (with the winner's name printed on them), two sets of Meinl Cymbals, AXIS LongBoard 'A' Double Pedal and 50 Remo Drum Heads. Contestants should sign in at the NAMM International Fastest Drummer Contest stage area located in Exhibit Hall 'E' starting the morning of Thursday, Jan. 16th. May the fastest drummer win.
